Historical Facts about Boiling Springs SC

Boiling Springs, SC is a small town located in Spartanburg County. The town is named after its natural spring, which is said to have medicinal properties. Boiling Springs was founded in 1852 and was originally known as Spicey Springs. 

The town grew quickly and by the early 1900s was home to several businesses, including a hotel, a bank, and a movie theater. 

In 1865, it was the last place that Confederate General Joseph Johnston stopped before he surrendered to Union General William Tecumseh Sherman at Bennett Place in Durham, NC. During World War II, Camp Croft was established in Boiling Springs and served as a military training facility for over 200,000 soldiers. Today, the camp is home to the Spartanburg County Historical Association which works to preserve the history of the site.

Boiling Springs is also home to Gardner-Webb University, which adds to the town's economic stability.  In 2018, Boiling Springs celebrated its 100th anniversary as an incorporated town. The event was marked with a parade and a centennial celebration featuring live music and fireworks.
