The Rock at Jocassee is the residential side of The Rock Golf Club and Resort, the mountain course at 171 Sliding Rock Road north of Pickens. Houses and homesites line Falcon Crest Way, Lone Rock Court, Sliding Rock Road, Woodmere Court, Whispering Falls Drive and Fireside Lane, most of them on or above the fairways.
The setting
The course sits where the Piedmont runs up against the Blue Ridge escarpment, and the land shows it. Emory Creek, Willis Creek and the Oolenoy River all cross the property, Pinnacle Mountain stands in view, and roughly two hundred acres of the resort remain in their natural state. The residential side is small by design, which is the opposite of what the acreage might suggest. The club reopened under new ownership in 2017 with rebuilt greens and a remodeled clubhouse.

Table Rock State Park is north on SC-11 — 3,083 acres, Lake Oolenoy and Lake Pinnacle, the Carrick Creek loop trail, and the eastern trailhead of the 80-mile Foothills Trail. Devils Fork State Park is the only public access to Lake Jocassee, where thirty-foot underwater visibility is common and the Oconee bell blooms in late winter. Hagood Mill, the water-powered gristmill built in 1845 with its petroglyph site and third-Saturday music days, is three miles north of downtown Pickens.
